Learn to carve a small object out of soapstone by cutting, carving, filing and sanding and how to give it a lasting finish. You will take home the all supplies to keep working at your new found skill!
This class will be taught by Kent Nicholson. Kent was born and raised in Dashwood. Now he lives and works in Kitchener as an Electrician. He enjoys working with his hands, playing sports, and getting out in nature. In 2015 Kent and his father attended an Artaroundtown soapstone workshop taught by Joe Haygarth from London. That was it – he was hooked and has been creating beautiful pieces ever since. A few years ago, Kent, along with his father Glen shared their skills by teaching a class for Artaroundtown where everyone produced admirable results. Try it and you will surprise yourself!
Participants will be taught how to make two pottery birds using a paper template. The clay will be rolled out as a slab to begin and then using basic tools the birds will become beautiful three dimensional pieces. Basic tools and slip will be provided for use in the workshop. Students will receive a handout and a paper outline of the template. Please bring any texture tools (stamps, lace) you might have to add pizzazz to your birds.
The class will be taught by retired educator, Sue Rowan, who has found a new passion teaching beginner Handbuild pottery. She has been making and teaching pottery for 15 years. She lives in Palgrave Ontario with her retired golfer husband and best friend Dave.
In this one-day Saturday workshop, you will learn all the basic techniques of the copper foil method- cutting, grinding, foiling, and soldering. Learn about art glass, tools, and good practices as you create a charming suncatcher. You may discover a new passion!
This class will be taught by Cherida McCullagh. Cherida has been working with stained glass for 28 years. While living far from home in Ottawa, she took her first stained glass course and has been creating ever since: sun catchers, panels and even cement patio stones.
Cherida lives on her family farm south of Wingham, with her partner, Brian. Together they raise beef cows, pasture raised meat chickens, and enjoy making maple syrup in the spring
